BUHSD Update 1-8-21

BUHSD Families,

With a new semester underway, we want to start by thanking everyone who completed the learning options prior to winter break so that schedules could be finalized for students prior to this week.  We will be continuing in the Distance Learning modality for all students for this upcoming week as we continue to allow for an isolation/quarantine period for all students and staff after winter break activities.

Our Governing Board meeting scheduled for 6:30 pm on Tuesday, January 12th, will be held in a virtual format for the public consistent with Distance Learning at this time.  If anyone would like to participate in the Call to the Public for this meeting, you may do so by emailing Call to the Public remarks to Leslie Doud at [email protected] by noon on Tuesday and the remarks will be read for you during the meeting.  More details on how to submit those remarks, the link to watch the public stream of the meeting, and other information pertaining to Governing Board meetings can be found on the district website on the Governing Board page at https://www.buhsd.org/community/governing_board

With the first the benchmark posting of 2021 taking place yesterday, there was a slight decrease in the number of cases (the data for the school benchmarks is reported two weeks delayed to allow for stabilization of the data).  Our overall risk level remains at the “substantial” level with the recommended learning scenario being “Virtual with On-Site Support”.  Specifically:

  • Cases: we had a decrease from 801.61 to 670.53 cases per 100,000 population;

  • Percent Positivity: this percentage increased slightly from 19.8% to 21.9%;

  • Covid-like Illness: this benchmark remained steady posting 12.8% and 12.9%.

Happy New Year!  We appreciate your support of our students through this unique time.

Sincerely,

Rob Roberson

Interim Superintendent
