Superintendent Update 10-2-20

BUHSD Families,

Good news.  With the most recent posting to the school reopening dashboard, we are ready for hybrid instruction immediately after fall break.

With the data posted yesterday on the school reopening dashboard, our specific district downgraded from an overall risk level of “substantial” to an overall risk level of “moderate” with our recommended learning scenario moving to “hybrid with onsite support”.  More specifically:

  • Cases: we had a slight increase from 32.77 cases to 36.55 cases per 100,000 population, but with cases for two-weeks being less than 100 cases per 100,000 population, we are meeting this benchmark;
  • Percent Positivity: this percentage decreased from 4.33% to 3.73% with the latest dashboard, which meets the benchmark with us remaining under 7% for two consecutive weeks;
  • Covid-like Illness: we are still meeting this benchmark with Covid-like illness staying at just 2% for consecutive weeks.

We are excited for students who have chosen Option A for Distance Learning/Hybrid to return to campus in-person on October 12th or 13th for in-person instruction two days per week (you should have received the hybrid group assignment and bell schedule from your student’s school).  Please note that all students, whether in-person or Distance Learning on a given day, will follow the new times on the hybrid bell schedule five days a week starting October 12th.

Bus meal service delivery will end after today.  There will be no meal service during fall break.  After fall break, as we move into the hybrid phase, free meal service for all students will begin on all campuses beginning October 12th.  And free, curbside meal service for anyone 18 or under will resume again at all campuses except the Learning Center.  More information will be forthcoming regarding free meal options for students on Distance Learning days who are unable to pick up meals curbside.

With the hybrid phase, bus transportation will begin for students who live within a school attendance area that is more than 1 ½ miles from the school.  To find your students bus stop and pick up time, go to the district website (www.buhsd.org) and select Transportation under departments.  On the Transportation department page, click on the “Find My Bus Route” icon.  It will take you to a site page where you can enter your address and find the information you need.  You can also find your bus routes on the same web page by clicking on your school and finding your residential subdivision or nearest cross streets.  If you have further questions about bus routes, you may call our transportation department at 623-386-9721 or email [email protected].

We hope that your student and family have an enjoyable fall break and stay healthy!  We will see your student after fall break.

Sincerely,

Rob Roberson
