BUHSD Update 11-13-20

BUHSD Families,

We are continuing to monitor the data on the school re-opening dashboard.  Unfortunately, the number of cases within our district boundary and the level of community spread continues to increase.  With yesterday’s posting, our overall risk level was elevated from “moderate” to “substantial” with our recommended learning scenario changing from “hybrid with onsite support” to “prepare for virtual with onsite support.” Specifically:

  • Cases: we had an increase from 113.44 cases to 155.03 cases per 100,000 population, so we have not met this benchmark for the past two weeks;
  • Percent Positivity: this percentage increased from 6.96% to 8.7%, so we are no longer meeting the school benchmark of under 7% for two consecutive weeks;
  • Covid-like Illness: we are still meeting this benchmark at the minimum level with Covid-like illness remaining at 4%.

At this time, we will continue with our Hybrid Learning schedule at Buckeye Union and Estrella Foothills. Youngker High School is in Distance Learning at this time and will remain so through November 19th.  We will continue to monitor the dashboard.  If our overall risk level remains at the “Substantial” level for a second week in a row with the November 19th benchmark posting, the entire district will shift to Distance Learning.  If we shift to Distance Learning district-wide, each campus will remain on their current bell schedule.

We continue to keep the health and safety of our students and staff at the forefront of decision-making.  As we hope for numbers to trend in a direction of lowered community spread, we remind everyone to remain proactive by following these important health guidelines:

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes.
  • Limit close contact with people who are sick, and avoid sharing food, drinks, and utensils.
  • Wear cloth face coverings when on campus.

Again, we appreciate the way our students and families have worked to follow protocols while on campus to help us remain in Hybrid Learning.  We will continue to monitor public health data and inform you of pertinent updates.

Sincerely,

Rob Roberson

Interim Superintendent
