BUHSD Update 11-6-20

BUHSD Families,

We are continuing to monitor the data on the school re-opening dashboard each week as we have since the creation of it by Governor's Order. As a district, we are still listed with an overall risk level of "moderate" with our recommended learning scenario being "hybrid with onsite support", but the numbers are indicating that the level of community spread in our district boundaries is increasing. Specifically:

- Cases: we had an increase from 73.10 cases to 113.44 cases per 100,000 population, so we are no longer meeting this benchmark;

- Percent Positivity: this percentage increased from 5.5% to 6.96%, but we are still maintaining this benchmark at the moderate level;

- Covid-like Illness: we are still meeting this benchmark at the minimum level with Covid-like illness increasing from 3% to 4%, but remaining below 5%.

At this time, as we remain in the "moderate" level, we will continue with our Hybrid Learning schedule at Buckeye Union and Estrella Foothills. It has become necessary, however, to return Youngker High School back to Distance Learning with the number of staff members being quarantined or out with positive COVID-19 tests. The shift back to Distance Learning is planned to be in effect at YHS through November 19 th .

We appreciate the students and families who have worked with our schools to complete contact tracing and quarantine protocols with the ultimate goal to minimize spread within our school communities. We continue to keep the health and safety of our students and staff at the forefront of decision-making.

Please help us by being proactive by following these important health guidelines:

- Stay home when you are sick.

- Wash your hands often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.

- Cover your coughs and sneezes.

- Limit close contact with people who are sick, and avoid sharing food, drinks, and utensils.

- Wear cloth face coverings when on campus.

Again, we appreciate the way our students and families have worked with our schools as cases have occurred. We will continue to monitor public health data and inform you of pertinent updates.

Sincerely,

Rob Roberson

Interim Superintendent
