BUHSD Update

November 5, 2020

Dear Youngker High School Families and Staff,

The Buckeye Union High School District’s highest priority is the health and safety of our students and staff. With recent notifications that have been sent out, and the additional notification below from today, it has become necessary to move YHS back to Distance Learning for a period of not less than 14 days.  This is due to lack of supervision on campus with the number of staff members being quarantined or out with positive COVID-19 tests. Beginning Friday, November 6, 2020, YHS will return to Distance Learning for all instruction. Students will continue to follow the bell schedule that has been in effect since returning from fall break, but all instruction will be done through Distance Learning with no in-person hybrid days.  The On-Site Support location will remain open for students who need it.  Curbside and bus route meal service options will be available for YHS students.  Please click here for further details on bus route meal service locations.

In addition to notifying you of the return to Distance Learning, we do want to share the following information with you. Today, November 5, 2020, we were alerted that two staff members tested positive for COVID 19. One staff member last attended the school on Friday, October 30th.  The other staff member arrived on campus today and was sent home. Both staff members are currently isolated and will not return until cleared. Any students or staff who may have been exposed have already been notified by the school and will quarantine for 14 days. Please note that all information, including the name of the ill person, is confidential in order to protect privacy.  Cleaning and disinfecting of any exposed locations will be completed.

For now, please continue to observe your child/children over the next few days for any of the common symptoms of the Coronavirus, including: fever or chills, cough, headaches, muscle or body aches, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, and/or rash.

Be proactive about reducing the number of interactions to limit the spread of the Coronavirus and practice good hygiene. Important public health prevention messages include:

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes.
  • Limit close contact with people who are sick, and avoid sharing food, drinks, or utensils.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
  • All students and staff must wear a face covering.

Individuals exposed must quarantine for 14 days from the last exposure in order to prevent illness in new persons. Quarantine means the person should not go to work, hang out with friends, go to social events, or come into close contact with another person even if they have NO symptoms until the 14 day period of isolation has passed.  “Close contact” means within 6 feet of the confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case for more than 15 minutes, even if wearing a face covering. Please note that all information, including the name of an ill person, is confidential in order to protect privacy.

We continue to monitor COVID-19 data and follow health official’s direction and procedures.  Our goal is to continue to provide students with a quality educational experience in the safest manner possible. At this time, the shift to Distance Learning is in effect through November 19, 2020.  Prior to that date, we will notify you of plans to either resume Hybrid Instruction or extend the length of Distance Learning.

Sincerely,

Olen R. Roberson

Interim Superintendent
