Buckeye, AZ – September 17, 2025 — The Buckeye Union High School Theatre Company is proud to celebrate one of its distinguished alumni, Hailey Garza (Class of 2022), who has been making remarkable strides in the world of theatre design.

Currently studying Lighting Design at the world-renowned Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, Garza has been selected as one of only twelve students worldwide to receive the prestigious Fred Foster Student Mentorship Program, sponsored by Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC).

This international recognition provides Garza with the opportunity to learn directly from leading designers across the country, including some of the most prolific Broadway designers in theatre history.

Garza’s journey began at Buckeye Union High School, where she immersed herself in nearly every aspect of theatre, serving as a Stage Manager, Designer, and even as a performer (once!). Those experiences ignited her passion and set her on a path that has now led her to one of the top theatre programs in the world.

In a recent article, Garza reflected on the opportunities that Carnegie Mellon has provided for her, crediting her foundation at BUHS Theatre Co as the spark that launched her aspirations.

“BUHS Theatre Co is committed to helping all of our students make great theatre,” said Mr. Michael Haslanger, BUHS Theatre Teacher. “We are so proud of the well-deserved recognition Hailey is receiving as she takes her first steps into a professional career. We’re all keeping an eye out for her continued success.”
