BUCKEYE, AZ — Buckeye Union High School District is celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of its alumni, staff, and Unified athletes who represented Arizona at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota.

Buckeye Union High School alumna and current district staff member Brittany Meola, served as an assistant coach for Team Arizona Unified Competitive Cheer, which competed against the nation's top Unified cheer teams during the Games, held June 21–28. Team Arizona delivered an outstanding performance, earning a silver medal while showcasing teamwork, dedication, and the spirit of inclusion.

The team brought together athletes and Unified partners with and without intellectual disabilities from across Arizona, including BUHS alumna Ashley Camacho and Alexis Mendoza, and EFHS Unified partner Iliana Brown, the 2025 AIA Unified Partner of the Year.

The Special Olympics Unified Sports program promotes inclusion by bringing together individuals of all abilities to compete, learn, and succeed as teammates. Team Arizona's success reflects the positive impact of Unified athletics and the meaningful relationships built through sports.

Buckeye Union High School District is proud to recognize Brittany, Ashley, Alexis, Iliana, and the entire Team Arizona Unified Competitive Cheer program for their outstanding achievement. Their silver medal performance is a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence while representing Arizona, their schools, and the Buckeye Union High School District on the national stage.
