unified choir singing at BUHS

Buckeye Union High School District is proud to celebrate the debut of Buckeye Union High School’s Unified Choir — a new musical group that brings together students of all abilities in a moving expression of inclusion, creativity, and community.

The launch of the Unified Choir aligns with Buckeye Union High School’s recent redesignation as a National Unified Champion School, an honor that reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture where all students are respected, valued, and actively included. The Unified Choir stands as a shining example of that commitment in action, demonstrating how the power of music can connect and uplift students across all learning experiences.

Led by Mrs. Coryell, who also teaches ceramics at BUHS, the group spent seven weeks rehearsing for a debut performance that was both musically impressive and deeply emotional.

“I am so proud of the first-ever Unified Choir performance,” shared Mrs. Coryell. “They spent seven weeks learning their music and performed with expression and musicality. I cannot wait to see how they continue to grow and learn as musicians for the Winter Concert.”

Families, staff, and audience members were equally inspired by the performance. Unified Coach Mrs. Meola reflected, “What I got to see and hear that day was unforgettable.” One parent described the concert as “the best night of my life,” while another shared, “I didn’t realize the level of inclusion my non-verbal son would have in choir.”

Perhaps the most meaningful reflection came from a senior Life Skills student who participated in the performance, saying, “I’ve never been included like this before.”

The Unified Choir represents more than a new ensemble — it embodies BUHSD’s district-wide commitment to engaging every family and creating inclusive opportunities for every student to shine. The district looks forward to watching this group continue to grow, inspire, and make a lasting impact across our schools and community.
